Piano Lessons for Children in Edinburgh

Students have a variety of reasons for wanting to learn the piano. Often parents encourage children to learn as it teaches focus, a love of learning outside of academia, and a lifelong skill. We believe that it is essential that you should have fun at your lessons. Instruments are often something that children learn for a short while and give up as it is too challenging or they find their lessons dull and repetitive. Here at the Andrew Walker School of Music, we make sure that your lesson is something you look forward to each week by pairing varied engaging lessons where musical ideas and techniques are taught in exciting ways with his friendly, patient and light-hearted disposition. We provide piano lessons for children in Edinburgh right from early years through to those finishing secondary school. Our youngest student has been 5 years old! For younger children, we use a mixture of games and apps to introduce the concept of rhythm. Our digital piano also has the ability to use rhythms and various sounds, which makes playing more enjoyable and varied. Additionally, it helps the children focus as the rhythm keeps them in time. It also offers budding young pianists the sensation that you are performing with a band. Children are also able to audio record their performances and show their parents what they have been working on. We always offer a brief amount of time at the end of each lesson to explain what your child has covered in their lesson and should be practising for the next one. We are always here to offer advice or answer any questions. For older children and teenagers, we encourage students to direct their learning and cultivate their own musical interests, for instance through exploring music theory and background of their favourite genre. All of our teachers have a very varied interest in music and can relate to older children who are interested in all types of music whether it is chart, indie, classic rock, jazz or classical.

Adult Piano Lessons in Edinburgh

Adults often wish to learn due to an existing appreciation of music, wanting to learn a new skill, enjoy a new pastime outside of work or to possibly pick up where the left off as a child themselves. Once again, all our team at the Andrew Walker School of Music put the emphasis on you enjoying your lessons and encourages you to play the styles of music that you wish to learn.  We understand that life and work can get in the way and that some weeks it may be hard to practice your pieces. Alternative engaging lessons can be implemented in these situations to further your understanding of music. Music has been proven to keep the mind agile and can be beneficial to mental health, with music therapy becoming increasingly popular. Music - especially piano - can also provide a creative outlet for those with additional support needs, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. For those who may struggle to communicate via conventional means, piano provides a means of  connection, motivation, communication and inspiration.
